The Lord Binning Pub & Kitchen, Kelsall, Cheshire

The Lord Binning Pub & Kitchen, Kelsall, CheshireFor a special treat, we booked in for lunch at the newly opened Lord Binning Pub & Kitchen at Kelsall. And what a treat it was. The Lord Binning is set in the most tranquil of settings, far enough away from the hurly-burly of the main roads, but well worth a detour to pay a visit.

We were greeted by Paul Newman, partner at the Lord Binning, and were spoilt for choice when it was time to order. Paul showed us to our table and discussed the menu with us. The food was plentiful, fresh and very tasty.

The Lord Binning Pub & Kitchen, Kelsall, CheshireTo start, we had the Black Pudding with Chickpeas and the Crumpet with Goats Cheese. This was followed by the Classic Burger and the Lamb. We ended our meal with a show-stopping Kelsall Apple Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding, both with Custard.

There were more than 18 wines both red and white available to order by the glass, with plenty of others available by the half or full bottle from the well-stocked cellar. We were not disappointed by the wine recommendations to go with our food choices and it is obvious that the wines stocked at The Lord Binning were clearly chosen for their ability to complement the food on offer.

The Black Pudding and Chickpeas starter was the start of our culinary tour of The Lord Binning menu.

For the main course, the Classic Burger was “Fully Loaded” by the selection of mushrooms, cheese and bacon and what a great decision that was. Without doubt this burger tasted of the finest, freshest beef and was how all burgers should taste – of real beef. It was extremely impressive.

As with all restaurant meals, the last course is often the one that is the most memorable. This is certainly the case here. The Sticky Toffee Pudding with custard was as light as a feather, but oh, so moreish.

Not being local to Kelsall, we were recommended to have the Kelsall Apple Pie and were told that the Apple Pie was a dessert that was famed locally. Dubious at first when we learned that the Apple Pie had grated Kelsall cheese as a topping and was served with custard, we were not disappointed by the recommendation. It was the tastiest of Apple Pies and the cheese only added to its appeal. That will be a must-have next time we visit!

The portions were more than adequate, but still left us wanting more – a sure sign of an enjoyable meal that is credit to the chef.

The Lord Binning Pub & Kitchen, Kelsall, CheshireEven though this is a new establishment, and has only been open a few weeks, it has the feeling of being comfortable and is not at all pretentious. The waiting staff are on hand to offer assistance, but are not overpowering in their demeanour. A rare quality indeed in such a new enterprise.

In all, this was a most pleasant and enjoyable visit and we will be sure to enjoy the hospitality afforded to us at The Lord Binning Pub & Kitchen once more in the very near future.
